I'm sure you've heard repeatedly over the last couple weeks how important keeping a routine or schedule is while we're social distancing. But, the one thing we noticed that no one is talking about how important it is to start off the day with a well balanced breakfast. Starting your day off with a healthy breakfast has been proven to boost your immune system, your metabolism and your mood not to mention it improves your concentration and increases your energy levels. Plus, the Mayo Clinic reports that people who take time for breakfast get more of their daily recommended vitamins and minerals, manage their weight better, and have lower cholesterol levels.
In our house we have become obsessed with Paddy O’s an amazing Irish brand that makes delicious cereals produced in Co Laois, and we found out that we are neighbors with the brand owner Paddy - our own local celebrity! Now more than ever it’s so important to support and buy Irish brands and products. Supporting an Irish brand has never been so easy as their cereals are delicious and a healthy way to start the day. We love the granola straight from the box or with milk and fruit. But, we've had fun testing out a few recipes from their blog over the last few days.
Here are a few of our Favourite Granola Recipes from the Paddy O's blog
STRAWBERRY, BANANA AND GRANOLA SMOOTHIE
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 2 bananas
- 1/2 cup almond or rice milk
- 2 T agave or maple syrup
- PaddyO's Granola
- Blend frozen strawberries, bananas, almond or rice milk and agave or maple syrup in a high-powered blender until smooth.
- Add more syrup if necessary.
- Layer the smoothie with a little basic granola in a glass and serve with a spoon.
